What is the most effective way to make disciples according to the Gospel?

Dr. Joel Beeke emphasizes that disciples are primarily made through the preaching of the Gospel, which he identifies as the dominant means that the Holy Spirit uses. He acknowledges that there can be various church ministries that can press home on the consciences of people, but the focus for making disciples should always be the preaching of the Word. This can be supplemented by one-on-one discussions about spiritual needs between Christians and non-Christians within the congregation.

However, Dr. Beeke warns against forcing individuals, especially children, into professions of faith. He expresses concern over any program that promotes a shallow form of Christianity, suggesting that it does more harm than good within the church. So you've got one thief on the cross that was saved in an extraordinary way at the end of his life and you've got 3,000 people saved on the day of Pentecost under one sermon. So I think there can be various church ministries that can really press home on the consciences of people, but the main means to really focus on making disciples should be the preaching of the Word. And of course, when a Christian visiting a non-Christian in the congregation and taking him out to lunch and talking to him one-on-one about the need for his soul and so on.

But forcing people almost to say yes, especially children, like, do you love the Lord Jesus? Well, I know mom and dad want me to say yes. Yes, oh great, well my child's saved. And any program that promotes this kind of shallow Christianity does more damage in the church than good. Thanks for watching!
