What does it mean to be "fishers of men" and how does it apply to all followers of Christ?

In this video, Paul Washer explains that while there are those who are specifically gifted in evangelism, all followers of Christ are called to evangelize to some extent. The modern culture of indifference towards witnessing can make this task difficult, but the call remains. In order to effectively witness in such a culture, believers must live in a way that stands out, prompting others to question why they are different.

This difference in living, when noticed by others, provides an opportunity to share the hope that lies within them. This is the essence of being "fishers of men." It's not about aggressively pushing beliefs onto others, but living in such a way that others are drawn to ask about it. By following Christ, believers become fishers of men in their own unique ways.

1 Peter 3:15 (NKJV): 'But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear.'

Music First of all, I want to make something very, very clear. There are people who are gifted in evangelism. I know many street preachers and apologists out in the street, you know, and they're very rare individuals. And so I would never want to tell everyone in my congregation, if you're not like this, you're somehow in sin. At the same time, we are all called to evangelize.

And we are called to evangelize if you look at things, that your good works, that men would see your good works and glorify your Father in Heaven. So one of the things is we live in a culture now that if you try to witness to someone, most people are just going to shut you up or ignore you. Now you should still witness, seek to witness to everyone. But in this culture we have to earn the right almost to witness. They have to see that we're unusual.

And then they have to ask us, and according to Peter, we need to be ready and able to give an answer for the hope that's in us. Why are you this way? Why are you this kind of person? You see? And so everyone needs to evangelize.

But if you look at the passage, he doesn't say, I will make you fisher's of men. He says, follow me and I will make you fishers of men.
