In the sermon titled 'Complementary Roles of Church and Family', speaker Mala Chindongo emphasizes the harmonious and purpose-driven relationship between the church and the family. The sermon highlights that both institutions are not opposing forces but are designed by God to fulfill specific roles. The church plays a crucial role in teaching, training, and equipping both parents and children to live for the glory of God. Meanwhile, parents, particularly fathers, are responsible for raising their children in the fear and admonition of the Lord throughout the week. The church complements this by providing spiritual guidance and reinforcement of biblical teachings. Chindongo underscores that families who diligently practice what they learn in church contribute to the formation of strong churches. Therefore, strong families are essential for building strong church communities.
One of our shared convictions, when I say our shared, is our church and some of the churches that we work with is the complementary roles of the family and the church. These two are not in opposition to each other. God has made them and created them for specific purposes. And so on one hand you have a church that's teaching and training and equipping parents and including children to live their lives for the glory of God. But who spends more time with those children and family members is the parents at home, the father, whose duty is to raise them in the fear and admonition of the Lord.
So he is teaching Monday through Saturday, Sunday, teaching his children to walk in the ways of the Lord. And so the church complements that. At the same time, when the family comes to church, having been taught and meditated on the Word of God and being taught to practice the things that they are learning from church, it is these families that make up strong churches. So if you have strong families, you're going to end up with a strong church.
