The man who started our church exactly 60 years ago was quite a man. He had a job, he had a family, and yet the hours he put into our church were amazing. So at his funeral he wanted me to preach on this passage, always abounding in the work of the Lord. Well, here's what I want to say to you about this passage. It's a marvelous passage.

It's for every Christian, by the way. This isn't for just the elders and deacons. Every Christian is to be abounding in the work of the Lord. Here's what I want to say. The Lord's work is rewarding.

It's meaningful. It's fulfilling. There are so many things you can do in your life that are meaningless. You're just wasting the air you're breathing. But the Lord's work will last for eternity.

There is gold and silver and precious stones that God will call out of our life. And God is no man's debtor. Whatever you have done for the Lord or for the Lord's people, He is going to reward you beyond anything you can even imagine. And you're going to hear, well done, good and faithful service. So, be steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord.

Did I say always? Yes, I did. Always abounding in the work of the Lord. Did I say always? Yes, I did.

Always abounding in the work of the Lord. And may I say, so we don't get confused here, mothers taking care of children is the work of the Lord. It's not just missionaries going out in the field or a preacher preaching a servant. Cleaning the dishes, cleaning up the house, raising children is the work of the Lord. Going to work and providing for your family and your job may not be the most interesting one, but you're providing for your children and your family.

That's the work of the Lord. Wherever the Lord has you, that's the center of the bullseye. So it's important we understand that because we might think, oh well that's only for missionaries and full-time workers.
