In this video, Don Hart explains that evangelism begins within the home. Children can learn from their parents evangelizing and sharing the Gospel with others. Evangelism can occur within the home and through showing hospitality towards others. In fact, evangelizing as a family sometimes opens doors that would not otherwise be possible if evangelizing alone. In short, there are great benefits to be gained by evangelizing as an entire family.

Joshua 24:15 (NKJV) - "And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord."

Our Lord's last command is our first priority. In the church, in the family, in the city, to the ends of the earth, join us in October for White Under Harvest. I frankly believe that evangelism is in many ways first and foremost a family event. There are many who would say, well I'll send my children to the government schools for purposes of evangelism, or I'll divide my family this way or that way for purposes of evangelism. And we just really need to ask the question, is that consistent with other biblical commands with regard to family?

And is there some conflict between evangelism and the family evangelizing? And of course there's not. The beauty of evangelism within a family is the fact that the family is doing it together. There is such power in the context of family. Some of the most important opportunities that I have had for evangelism have come because I was with my family.

And what better place for my children to be learning the importance of evangelism and seeing it modeled than as we do it within a family. And in that context, they do it safely. They do it in ways in which they are protected by their father. They do it in ways which are consistent with other biblical commands which fathers have, and yet we are fulfilling that great commission and we are doing it together as a family. We are doing it in the context of hospitality.

We're doing it in the context of our home. We're doing it as we're out and about and people see our families. And our families, as we embrace and love the vision of fruitfulness in children, again, so important for evangelism. The family context, family evangelism, will open doors that will not be available in any other way. There is something about a family that opens hearts, that opens minds, that opens dialogues, and that presents amazing opportunities for the Gospel.
