In his sermon, Philip Long discusses six key points about the Holy Scriptures based on the 1689 SLBC, Chap. 1, Par. 8. All right, on this chapter I'd like to, I guess, bring out six points that I think are key to the paragraph here. The first one deals with Romans chapter 3 and verse 2, and that is to point out that to the Jews they were committed to oracles of God. It was brought out in Romans 3 and verse 2. It says, much every way chiefly, because unto them were committed the oracles of God. Point two is God's promise of the preservation of scriptures, and we'll turn to Matthew 5 in verse 18, says, For verily I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass, not one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law till all be fulfilled.

The third point, bringing out in this paragraph that we're looking at is the teaching and preaching of worship will conform to Scripture. And we'll look at, I believe Isaiah 20 was also read, We'll look at that again. It says, To the law and to the testimony, if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them. Alright and then Colton read the other one, there's Acts 15, 15. To this agree the words of the prophets as it is written.

We'll also look at the very familiar scripture of 2 Timothy 3 verses 16 and 17. 2 Timothy chapter 3 verses 16 and 17. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works. We'll turn over to John chapter 10. We'll look at verses 34 through 36.

John chapter 10, verses 34 through 36. Jesus answered them, is it not written in your law I said your gods? If he called them gods unto whom the word of God came and the scripture cannot be broken say of him Whom the father has sanctified and sent into the world thou blasphemous because I said I am the Son of God. The fourth point I think in this paragraph that I'd like to bring out is scripture is applicable to all. We'll look at Deuteronomy chapter 17.

It's talking about when the king took the throne, he was supposed to write out a copy of the law and keep it with him. Deuteronomy chapter 17 verses 18 through 20. It says, And it shall be when he sit upon the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write him a copy of this law in a book out of that which is before the priests and the Levites. And it shall be with him, and he shall read therein all the days of his life that he may learn to fear the Lord his God and keep all the words of this law and these statutes to do them that his heart be not lifted up above his brethren and that he turn not aside from the commandment to the right hand or to the left, to the end that he may prolong his days in his kingdom, he and his children in the midst of Israel." And The same goes for us as believers, whether you're in a position of authority or not. We'll also look at on the same vein here, we'll go to look at Proverbs chapter 2 verses 1 through 5.

Proverbs chapter 2, 1 through 5. Proverbs chapter 2, 1-5 My son, if thou will receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee, so that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and imply thy heart to understanding. Yea, if thou cryest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding, if thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures, then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God." We'll also turn over, look at Proverbs chapter 8 and verse 34. Blessed is the man that heareth me watching daily at my gates waiting at the posts of my doors. We'll look at John chapter five, we'll read verses 39 and 46.

John chapter five, verses 39, Search the Scriptures for in them you think you have eternal life, and they are they which testify of me. Skipping down to verse 46, for had you believed Moses, you would have believed me, for he wrote of me. We'll drop down to point number five. Scripture is to be understood plainly in the common language. And we'll look at 1 Corinthians chapter 14.

I'm gonna be bouncing around in that chapter. First Corinthians 14 will start in verse 6. This is now, brethren, if I come unto you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you accept? I shall speak to you either by revelation or by knowledge or by prophesying or by doctrine. Skip down to verse 9, So likewise ye except ye utter by the tongue word easily to be understood.

How shall it be known what is spoken? For ye shall speak into the air. Skip down to verse 11. Therefore I know not the meaning of the voice. I shall be unto him that speaketh a barbarian.

And he that speaketh shall be a barbarian unto me. Even so, ye for as much as ye are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek that ye may excel to the edifying of the church." And then skip down to verse 24 in chapter 14 there. But if all prophesy and there come in one that believeth not or one unlearned, he is convinced of all. He is judged of all. We'll tie it up with verse 28 in that same chapter.

It says, but if there be no interpreter, let him be silenced in the church. Let him speak to himself and to God. And finally, the last point in this paragraph is the scriptures were given to us to comfort and to assure the believer. And we'll look at Romans chapter 15 verse four. For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures, might have hope.

On the same vein of thought there, let's turn to Colossians 3 and verse 16. Colossians chapter three and verse 16 says, "'Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
