John chapter 1, 1 John chapter 1, beginning at verse 1. We'll go ahead and read the entire chapter, considering verses 1-4 as review, and then we'll take verses 5-10 as our text. That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon and our hands have handled, the word of life. For the life was manifested and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew or proclaim unto you that eternal life which was with the Father was manifested unto us. That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that you also may have fellowship with us and truly our fellowship is with the Father with his Son Jesus Christ.

And these things write we unto you that your joy may be full. This then is the message which we have heard of Him, or heard from Him, and declare unto you that God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him and walk in darkness we lie and do not the truth but if we walk in the light as he is in light we have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus Christ his son cleanseth us from all sin If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

As I mentioned, our text will be from verses five through 10, but I wanted to read verses one through four as a reminder that John is writing as an eyewitness of Jesus Christ, an eyewitness of His life, His ministry, His death burial, and indeed most importantly of his resurrection. That this is the message that he had heard from Him. This is what He's declaring here in this text. And this is obedience. Jesus had told them early on before He ascended in Acts chapter 1.

You'll hold your place there where we're at. In Acts chapter 1 and verse 8. But ye shall receive power after that the Holy Ghost has come upon you. You shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria and unto the uttermost part of the earth." So Jesus told his apostles, he told his church that they would be witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria even to the end of the earth and we often take this and we say all right that is true they were witnesses and we carry the torch to the end of the earth but in in in another sense they were obedient to the completeness of this because men like John and the others, as they wrote obediently what they seen, what they heard, they wrote it down in these Scriptures that we have. It's God-breathed, the inspired Word of God, these sacred writings, they've been carried to the ends of the earth, translated even into our language today, and even still yet, the work is being done.

It's very fascinating to think about that this Scripture in Acts chapter 1, even 2, 000 years later, still has not been fulfilled. That there are places and peoples who have not yet heard. People who have never heard the Gospel. People who speak a language where they don't have a Bible in their language. And so the work continues.

But what he wrote in the Gospel of John, in the epistles of 1st, 2nd, 3rd John, what he wrote in Revelation. John was being obedient to record those things. Those things. We are also, as I thought about that, we are also to, we have our part in this, for in Matthew chapter 28, Matthew chapter 28, we have the Great Commission. In Matthew chapter 28 verses 18-20, Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power, all authority is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

Go ye therefore and teach or make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things, was wherever I've commanded you, and lo, I'm with you always, even to the end of the world." That word world there can mean the end of the age. We haven't gotten there yet. And so the work continues. The commission, this great commission, was given to that first church, but it's been handed down to us in our day to this church. And it's largely become the great omission in some circles, but it must not be so.

We're as responsible to this as what that first church was. We must be as obedient to our part as what John was as he wrote. David Livingstone, the famous African missionary explorer, he said, if a commission by an earthly king is considered an honor, how can a commission by a heavenly king be considered a sacrifice? That makes you think, doesn't it? Why, if the President of the United States got on the phone with us today and said, hey, I've got a job for you to do.

We'd probably be honored. We said, yes, count me in. What is it, Mr. President? How can I help?

How much more so when we have this commission from our King? Brother Jack Holbrooke up in Ohio in a sermon that I heard him preach not too long ago, He said if we do not seek to take the gospel outside of the church walls, it matters very little what we say about church authority. And he's right. We can talk about things and we can talk about them and they look good on paper and they look good on a statement. But if we don't put those things in practice, what good is it?

John was loyal, and we thank the Lord for it. We praise God when we open up our Bibles. Certainly those men were loyal to write down what they saw. We have here a book, an eyewitness book, the New Testament. The Old Testament means also a book of eyewitness, of the prophecies and the sacrifices and the things that happened.

They were all loyal to do what they were to do. We take it for granted that they did what they did. Let us not fumble the ball as it were in our day. In fact, John as he wrote, he recorded something that often happens in our day and age and it was happening in his time too in John chapter 12. John chapter 12 and verses 42 and 43.

Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him, but because of the Pharisees, they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue, for they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God." In those days, there were Jews who believed on Jesus, but because of the Pharisees, they did not openly confess him unless they should be put out of the synagogue. And I think how terrible that is. But the root of the issue is they loved the praise of God. And I think of a day like today. It's Easter Sunday.

We don't celebrate Easter. I never have. Never grew up with it. None of those things. My Facebook page is full of people who are rejoicing about the resurrection of Christ.

Even this morning I saw the Glenn County Sheriff's Department posted a Bible verse, and they had a real good post about it. Now, it puts a guy like me in a in a chondrum because should I should I rejoice with them on a day like this? Because of the brethren. Let's just put it in the modern day vernacular, because of the brethren they did not confess him lest they should be put out of the conferences. For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.

So, David Green is rejoicing with an Easter celebrator about the resurrection of Christ. There must be something wrong with him. I don't care what day it is, If I see somebody who is preaching the gospel, rejoicing over the resurrection of Christ, I'm going to rejoice with them as well. Let us tell it boldly, Not just today, but every day. Jesus Christ died, He was buried, and He rose again.

John was not afraid. There were others who were. But what did it cost him? Well, at the end of his life, he ended up suffering. He ended up on the Isle of Patmos.

Later, He was killed for the faith, just like the other apostles. Let us tell the glad message, the gospel, the good news. Let us rejoice with those who will rejoice even on this day. And let them know, let them know that today is not the only day. Jesus is alive.

Jesus is alive. And we meet every Lord's Day for this very reason. And when you're in Christ, every day is a day we're celebrating the resurrection of Christ. Every day is we're celebrating the fact that we have a risen Savior. And John is writing as an eyewitness.

You and I, we weren't there. We're not from the first century, but certainly, certainly we are. You're born again today, if you're saved, you too join in that happy throng of witnesses to tell others. John says, this then is the message which we have heard of him. This is the message that we heard from him.

And declare unto you that God is light and in him is no darkness at all. The message, the psalm of the revelation which Christ made to man is this, that God is light. Now many translations have this word light in this text throughout. They have it capitalized and for good reason for good reason God is not simply a light There's lots of lights. There's the lights on My vehicle which aren't very bright But they work There's the light above my shower, which is burnt out, so it doesn't work at all.

But there is a light up there. I just have to change the bulb. There's the light of the sun, which is very bright. There's the light of the moon, which is a lesser light. There's the stars that give light.

There's street lights. There's all sorts of lights. God is not light among many. He's not even the light. God is light itself.

God is light without no darkness at all, meaning he's perfectly pure without any mixture of sin at all. Albert Barnes in his work on Barnes' notes said, He has all knowledge with no mixture of ignorance on any subject. He is infinitely happy with nothing to make him miserable. He is infinitely true, never stating or countenancing error. He is blessed in all his ways, never knowing the darkness of disappointment and adversity.

God is light, in him is no darkness at all. This is why when we go through Genesis and we read and we see that God created everything in six literal days, we see that on the first day God said let there be light and there was light. But it wasn't until until the fourth day that he made the Son. The skeptic scratches her head and says, that's kind of weird. How does that happen?

That there could be light before the Son? Well, the reason for that is God is light. God is light. Indeed, you flip over to the back of the book, to the right side of the book, the ending revelation, you find out There's coming a time when there'll be no more sun or moon. We'll have all the light we need.

God is light. God is light. We must not miss this and we can rejoice in this. And indeed, I'm preparing to preach at a Bible conference on Psalm 23. My text will be Psalm 23 and verse four.

You wanna go over there with me? I'm not gonna preach that sermon this morning. I might preach it when I get back here. Psalm 23 verse four says, Ye, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil. For thou are with me, thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me.

If there's a shadow, beloved, there must be light. When you're going through your most terrible times, and a lot of times we only preach this sermon, or hear it preached, or hear this text at a funeral, the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for thou art with me. If he wasn't there, it wouldn't be a shadow, it would be darkness. It would be total darkness. God is light, and we thank the Lord for that.

For that. And John, as he writes this epistle, he goes on. This text is a And this text is a mixture of encouragement and warning, reflection for people. Look at this, he says in verses 6 and 7, If we say that we have fellowship with him and walk in darkness, we lie and do not the truth. But if we walk in the light as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

Ever since the first man Adam sinned in the garden, men have tried to deny the reality of sin. But the fact is, we're all sinners. Every one of us. In fact, See how he writes, if we say we have no sin. He includes himself.

John was a great apostle, but even he was a sinner. Every man, woman, and child that has ever descended from Adam, with the exception of Jesus Christ, is a sinner. And in fact, in Romans chapter 3, Romans chapter 3 verses 9 through 18. What then are we better than they? No and no wise, for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, they are all understand.

As is written, there is none righteous, no not one. There's none that understandeth, there's none that seeketh after God. They're all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable. There's none that doeth good, no not one. Their throat is an open sepulcher with their tongues they've used to seat, the poison of asps is under their lips, whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness, their feet are swift to shed blood, destruction and misery are in their ways in the way of peace.

Have they not known there's no fear of God before their eyes? Now we know that whatsoever things the law sayeth, it sayeth to them who are under the law that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. Therefore, by the deeds of the law, there shall no flesh be justified in his sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin." So the whole of the human race is depraved, not just sick with sin, but dead in their sins and their trespasses. In fact, the Old Testament said it this way over in Isaiah chapter 64, Which by the way, Paul was quoting a lot from the Old Testament in Romans there. But in Isaiah chapter 64 verse 6, but we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags.

As filthy rags. Not just a washcloth that can be washed again, he's talking about this filthy menstrual cloths. We're filthy. Our righteousnesses are. And we all do fate as a leaf and our iniquities like the wind have taken us away.

How do we put this all in perspective? Well, let me just say it this way. If we were to take your very best nanosecond that you've ever had in this world, your very best nanosecond, you're living good, you haven't done anything wrong. You're right with God, you think, and all these sorts of things. And you're doing what you're supposed to be doing.

Even at that. Even at that. It it's not enough. It's not enough to be right with God. Put it to you another way, your best deeds that you've ever done in your life, Jesus has to die on the cross for those.

So wait a minute preacher, He just has to die for the times I've been bad. Our problem sometimes isn't that we don't know that we're bad. We don't know just how bad we are. There's absolutely nothing that we can do to merit God's favor. And he looks at us and what we think is righteous, he says, what are you?

Filthy rags. How can you bring these filthy rags and think that's good enough? Oh, beloved. If we aren't trusting in only Jesus Christ, He shed blood. Christ.

He shed blood. We've missed out. John has a concern for Christians. He has a concern for the truth. He has a concern for false professors in this text.

In this text, he says, if we say we have fellowship with Him, in darkness we lie and do not the truth. In other words, if we make the claim to be a Christian, if we walk, this word walk implies a direction. I'm walking this way, I'm going in direction. And if I walk this way I'm going in different direction. Walking implies movement, a way of life.

A way of life. You're walking in darkness. Meaning your way of life, the direction that you're going is the way of the world and of sin. You lie and do not do truth if you claim to be a Christian. You see, that's what he's saying here.

That's what he's saying here. Over in John chapter 8, in verse 12, And verse 12, Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world. He that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life." Jesus said that He was the light of the world. Those that follow him shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life." There's going to be a marked difference in the one who's genuinely been saved, the one who's genuinely come to Christ. But there is a reality in the Scriptures.

Reality in the scriptures. Over in John chapter three, John chapter three verses 19 and 20. Well, let's start with verse 18. Of course, we're all very familiar with John 3.16. "'For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life.

But notice verse 18, He that believeth on him is not condemned, but he that believeth not is condemned already because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world and men love darkness rather than light because their deeds were evil. For everyone that doeth evil hateth the light neither cometh to the light lest his deeds should be reproved but he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may manifest, that they are wrought in yon." And so, humanity, the flesh, prefers darkness over light. This is why daily Bible reading, why preaching the Word, all the Word will never be popular with the world. Why Paul told Timothy that the time would come when they'll not endure sound doctrine, but they'll keep themselves teachers having itching ears, you see.

They'll be turned to fables and that sort of thing. Why? Because they love darkness rather than light. If I can take the Bible and treat it like a buffet, you know, if I go to the buffet, what do I do? I don't get everything.

I get the things I like, you see. But if I take the Word and treat it like mom's house, What mom cooks, she puts in front of you and you eat. God has given us the whole Word. All of it, from Genesis to Revelation. There are some things in here which are harder than others.

But we're to take it, and we're to read it, we're to study it, we're to hear it preached. But this is why it's not popular. It's why church services and meetings and Bible conferences will never be enjoyable by those who are outside of Christ. No one who claims to be a Christian and yet lives in darkness is actually saved. That's what he's saying here.

That's what he's saying here. Those who are in the light, he and James' admonition over in James 1 verses 22 through 25. James 1, verses 22 through 25, he says this, Seest thou how faith wrought with his works? And by works was, sorry I'm in chapter two, chapter one, oh that didn't look right. Verse 22, but be doers of the word and not hearers only deceiving your own self.

For if any be a hearer of the word and not a doer he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass. For he beholdeth himself and goeth his way and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed. If any man among you seemeth seem to be religious and bridleeth not his tongue but deceiveeth his own heart, this man's religion is vain. Pure religion and undefiled before God, and the Father is this, to visit the Fatherless and widows in their affliction, and keep himself unspotted from the world." This world doesn't mind you being religious or even claiming to be a Christian.

In fact, in America, especially in the South, the greatest idols is a Jesus that men can fit into their pocket and pull out when they need him. Not the Jesus of the Bible, but a Jesus that they've made up in their own mind. And a church building that they've made into some kind of a shrine. It's all, I'm sick, I got this problem, I got that problem, I better pull Jesus out of my pocket, and I better show up at the church building. And everything's alright.

What says the Word of God in our text? Well, let's go back to it. Verse seven and eight, but if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, in the blood of Jesus Christ, his son cleanseth us from all sin. Actually, we'll get to verse eight in a moment. Let's Park here for just a moment.

In verse 7, when he writes about walking again, he's talking about this manner of life. So to walk in darkness is to go the wrong direction. But to go in the light is to walk the correct way. To walk in darkness is to have a manner of life contrary to the Christian life. But to walk in the light is to walk in the right direction, to live like a Christian, to live like Christ.

Like Christ. Ephesians chapter four. Ephesians chapter four, verse one, Ephesians chapter four, verse one, I therefore in the prisoner of the Lord beseech you that you walk worthy of the vocation, wherewith you're called, with all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love, endeavoring to keep the unity of the spirit and the bond of peace. Paul wrote to the church at Ephesus, he said, He said, I write to you that you walk worthy of the calling, worthy of the vocation. We are to be different than the world.

Over in Colossians chapter 1, Galatians chapter 1 and verse 10. You might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God. And so, and then he goes on down to verse 12, and there he says, giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light, who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son, in whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins. We're taking out of darkness into light. We're to want that way.

And going all the way back into the Old Testament, we see that this is the way that it's supposed to be. God's people are to be different. If we walk in the light as he is in the light, he says we have fellowship one with another. So there's a bond that we have and I spoke of this in the message last week. We're in Christ.

There may be differences between us. We may have different backgrounds, different, sometimes even different nationalities and all that sort of thing, but we're in Christ. We're going to enjoy a joy fellowship with God and God's people. My grandfather used to sing a song. My aunt Sandra and I think my mom also sung it.

They used to sing together quite frequently. And it was called God's Wonderful People. And I'm not going to sing it, but I found the lyrics, and it said, I love the thrill that I feel when I get together with God's wonderful people. What a sight just to see all the happy faces praising God in heavenly places. What a thrill that I feel when I get together with God's wonderful people.

Now it can be just anywhere. Two or three are gathered there that the Spirit of the Lord will be there too. There's no fellowship so sweet. There's no thrill. They can compete with the thrill I feel whenever God's children meet." And then someone goes on to say, and on that great reunion day when our Lord says, come away and the saints from every land stream through the gate, joining loved ones around the throne.

At last we'll all be gathered home. That will be the greatest thrill we've ever known." And indeed, what a thrill it is. And in fact, in fact, we have great fellowship when we come together as a church, when we assemble ourselves together here, just a few of us, but we also have great fellowship when we get together at Bible conferences and places like that as well, or even just one-on-one. That's the way it should be. John chapter 13 in John's Gospel, John chapter 13 verses 34 and 35.

Jesus said, a new commandment I give unto you that you love one another as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this shall all men know, and you're my disciples, if you have love one to another. Sometimes meditate on that verse and think about it. How does Jesus love us? Certainly, he loves with an unconditional love.

He loves with an eternal love. But, you know, we can go through those things. But also consider the fact that he loved us when we were unlovable. Actually, I should say he loves us when we're unlovable. You know, we're different than he is, but he loves us.

And the thing about this, Jesus could have said all sorts of things external, that men would know how that were his disciples. But he wasn't trying to make a new sect of the Pharisees. Can you imagine if he would have said, by your baptism, everyone will know that you're my disciples? Can you imagine if he were said, by the name of the church that you go to, By this, all men will know that you're my disciples." He could have said, by the name of the English translation of the Bible that you carry, all men will know that you're my disciple." He could have said, if you go to church without missing, all year long by this, all men will know that you're my disciples. Don't get me wrong.

You ought to be baptized. You ought to be a member of one of the Lord's churches. And you ought to have a good English translation of the Bible if you speak English. If you don't speak English, then find one in your own language. But, you know, he didn't tell us any of those things.

He didn't say, buy the suit and tie that you wear, or buy the dress that you put on on Sunday morning. I'm thankful that we have nice clothes, but this don't make me a Christian. Y'all could probably get rid of me and find a preacher that wears less clothes than, I mean doesn't wear a tie and maybe preach better than me. That's a fact. But he didn't say any of those things, did he?

He said, by the love you have, one for another. It's hard to love somebody if you won't assemble with them. It's hard to have fellowship, one with another if you're not around. And so just consider those things, consider those things. But as we move on, obviously he's addressing false professors in all this.

But look at verse 8. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we walk in the light as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another. The blood of Jesus Christ, his son, cleanses us from all sin. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.

To all who walk in the light, those who are legitimately saved. There's going to be fellowship one with another in the blood of Jesus Christ. His Son cleanses us from all sin. And if we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, the truth is not in us. On the authority of the Bible, I can say that we have nothing whereof to brag.

Jesus is the hero in our story. The blood of Christ, His Son, Jesus Christ, His Son, cleanses us from all our sins. We're saved by His grace through faith in Christ. There are some professors out there who say, well, I don't have enough sin. The reality is there's not a person here that is sinless.

There's not a child of God who has reached the point of sinless perfection in this life. That included John as he wrote this and that includes the man standing in the pulpit this morning. There are indeed false professors out there. John as he brings these up, he brings up this class of those who claim to be sinless. They have no truth in them.

They say they've reached this point of sinless perfection, but the Bible does not teach any such thing. There is only one who is ever without sin, and that's Jesus. Over in Hebrews 4 and verse 15. Hebrews 4 and verse 15. Hebrews 4 and verse 15.

For we have not, and high priest, which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities, but with all points tempted like as we are yet, without sin. Jesus was without sin. But for the rest of us, we struggle with it daily. Romans chapter 7, if you read that verses 14 through 25, Paul goes through and he tells about his struggle daily with sin. You and I, we struggle the same way.

And as John goes on there, in 1 John, chapter 1, verse 9, he says, if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive our sins, to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. For the child of God, we have great comfort to know that When we sin, we confess our sins. He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. This is good for the day that we're saved, but also throughout our lives. The salvation cleansing that John describes here encompasses all our transgressions, past, present, and future.

Now grace is no ticket to sin. As I said, walking in light is a direction. And walking in darkness is a different direction. Now as you walk, understand you've still got this old nature that you're dealing with. There's going to be times when you trip, you fall, you stumble, you'll never lose your salvation, You'll never go back into darkness.

It is a joy to know that there is no iniquity which can change our standing before God. Again, it's not a ticket to sin, but it is a comfort to know that. Over in Romans chapter 8. I'm going to read verse 33. Verse 33.

Who shall lay anything to the charge of God's elect. It is God that justifieth. Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?

Shall tribulation or distress or persecution or famine or nakedness or peril or sword, as is written, for thy sake we are killed all the day long, we're counted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life nor angels nor principalities nor powers nor things present nor things to come nor height nor depth nor any other creature shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. So long as I'm focused on myself, I don't know how I could be saved. I can't.

There's nothing good that I could do to merit God's favor. Nothing good that I could do to keep myself in the grace of God. So long as I'm looking at Christ, His finished work, trusting in him, I don't see how I could be lost, you see. My hope is it not in me, my hope is in the finished work of Jesus. And he goes on in And he goes on in 1 John chapter 1 in verse 10, as we bring this to a close, he brings up one last false professor, and that is those who say they've never sinned.

If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, his word is not in us." So this false professor is similar to those who believe that they've reached sinless perfection, but these fellows take it a step further and they say that we've not sinned. He says these guys make him a liar and his word is not honest. There is no confession with these people. They don't confess their sins. Sometimes they'll confess everybody else's sins.

But Jesus made it clear that a man cannot be justified apart from an honest confession of his or her own sinfulness. Look there at Luke chapter 18. Luke chapter 18, beginning of verse nine. He spake this parable unto a certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous and despised others. Two men went into the temple to pray, the one a Pharisee and the other a Republican.

The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God I thank thee that I'm not as other men are extortioners, unjust adulterers, or even as this publican. I fast twice in a week, I give tithes of all that I possess the publican standing far off would not lift so much as his eyes unto heaven but smoke upon his breast saying God be merciful to me a sinner I tell you this man went down to his house justified rather than the other, for every one that exalted himself shall be abased and he that humbled himself shall be exalted." There are indeed false professors in this world. These things are written, these things are written not to discourage us, but rather to encourage us. Jesus came to the world to save sinners. That means that there are genuine believers.

God is light, So let us walk in the light. And so I just close by saying this, have you repented of your sins? Are you fully trusting in Jesus today? Are you walking in the light? If not, today is the day.

Trust Him, believe in Him, and you will be saved.
