In his email if you read that and he even surprised me. I was looking forward to it myself. It sounded so exciting. Go ahead and turn to Zechariah chapter 4. This is a little out of the ordinary for me.

Hadn't preached out of a minor prophet in some time. But I was reading through this just in my personal time Bible study and it just it struck me on what God was saying to Zechariah and what God was doing and what that means for us today. So Zechariah chapter 4 and I'd like to read the entirety of the chapter and this is what the Word of the Lord says, Now the angel who talked with me came back and awakened me as a man who was wakened out of his sleep and he said to me, what do you see? So I said, I am looking and there is a lamp stand of solid gold with a bowl on top of it, and on the stand seven lamps with seven pipes to the seven lamps. Two olive trees are by it, one at the right of the bowl and the other at its left.

So I answered and spoke to the angel who talked with me saying, What are these my Lord? Then the angel who talked with me answered and said to me, Do you not know what these are? And I said, No my Lord. So he answered and said to me, This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel. Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, says the Lord of Host.

Who are you, O great mountain? Before Zerubbabel you shall become a plain, and he shall bring forth the capstone with shouts of grace, grace to it. Moreover the word of the Lord came to me saying the hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this temple. His hands shall also finish it and then you will know that the Lord of hosts has sent me to you. For who has despised the day of small things?

For these seven rejoice to see it, the plumb line in the hand of Zerubbabel. They are the eyes of the Lord, which scan to and fro throughout the whole earth. And then I answered and said to him, what are these two olive trees at the right end of the lampstand and at its left? And I further answered and said to him, what are these two olive branches that drip into the receptacles of the two golden pipes from which the golden olive drains? And then he answered to me and said, Do you not know what these are?' And I said, No, my Lord.

So he said, These are the two anointed ones who stand beside the Lord of the whole earth. Let us pray. Our heavenly Father, we thank you for your word that instructs us, And Lord we ask now that your Spirit would guide us into all truth. Lord I pray that this would be a tremendous encouragement to us as we look into this passage and we see what you're saying to Zechariah that it would be invigorating for us, that it would be something that would cause joy in our hearts and Lord help us to see clearly that there is always difficulty when we look into the prophets and when we're looking at visions we don't want to take it too far but Lord we want to draw from it every good thing that you have for us and so I pray very specifically for Hope Baptist Church, these dear people, your people Lord, that you would bless them with this message and I ask it in Christ's name. Amen.

So this afternoon one of the things that struck me about this passage and really kind of the theme that I want to look at is this theme of wake up and see what God is saying. Now a little bit of a play on words there, see what God is saying. And that's what God was doing with Zechariah. He was actually showed him a vision and Zechariah within this he was asking the angel what are these? What is this thing?

And he says regarding the vision this is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel. So God was speaking to him, but he was speaking to him through a vision that he was having, and he wanted him to understand what God was doing. So a little bit of background here, Zechariah and Haggai were contemporaries, and they were speaking to the people of Israel regarding the rebuilding of the temple which had not come about the way that it should have. It was still lacking. There was some apathy if you will.

They were not invigorated to accomplish the task fully. And so as I was reading this just in my personal time, it was on my heart to share this when I knew that I was going to be preaching a second session and just take a little bit of a break from the book of Acts. But as we read this, it came into my understanding of, as I was reading this, to think about some of the events that have taken place in the last few months. One of which would be, and again I'm speaking very specifically here to our church, one of which would be our evangelism Sundays. Another was our planned engagement with the Pride Festival, which has already taken place.

But also, I believe that God has used the martyrdom of Charlie Kirk to do a work of awakening us to be more actively engaged in the gospel and actively engage this lost world, this dying world with the light of the gospel. His vision here was one of a candlestick and regarding the supply that was going to this from the olive trees down into the bowl, from the bowl down through the pipes and into the candles and we'll get into some of that here but I really want this to also play off of what Scott had preached last week in Romans 13 and I'll read that in just a moment but because of our past comforts in this nation as Christians I fear that we lack, we have lacked resistance to our faith. In other words what I mean is we've had it pretty easy. There's been no resistance to accomplishing the task. It's been easy to in a sense sit back to enjoy the worship of God and to not actively engage in being a light to the world.

And so I hope to encourage against that and for us to go beyond that, and I want to push back on that a little bit of the tendency for Christ followers to have a sleepiness to be lulled into slumber when it comes to letting our lights so shine among men. Now we are actively pushing that. We're doing that with our evangelism Sunday. We were doing that with going to sing hymns at the Pride Festival. Many of you are doing that personally in evangelism and I praise God for that.

So this is not a rebuke, don't hear me saying that. This is an encouragement. And what I want it to do is to invigorate you and enliven you to excel still more. That's my aim in this. I want it to spur you on to love and good works.

And so we are actively building, or Christ is actively building, His church. And the scripture says in 1st Peter that we are living stones within that temple. So the relationship here between what Zechariah was doing and what we are continuing to do is to build the temple. I hope that you can see that leap there from the physical temple that he was working to have constructed and built and to what God is still doing in building his spiritual temple to the living stones which would be us. Scott preached last week in Romans 13 and it says this, and do this knowing the time that now it is high time to awake out of sleep.

For now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness and let us put on the armor of light let us walk properly as in the day not in revelry and drunkenness not in lewdness and lust not in strife and envy but put on the Lord Jesus Christ and make no provision for the flesh to fulfill its lust." Now it's easy for us to when we read those last words there, not to fulfill its lust, the lust of the flesh. It's easy for our minds to go specifically to lustful thoughts of sexual sins, but I believe that it is much broader than that in the sense that the lust of our flesh or any of the anything that our flesh lust after. Your flesh may lust after ease.

Your flesh could be lusting after all sorts of things that are contrary to the Word of God that are not sexual in nature. And so I want us to be on guard not to look at this word lust and only think of it within a single category. But we need to understand that the flesh is fighting against the Spirit and the Spirit against the flesh. There's a constantly a battle that goes on within us. And the Lord also wants us to know within this text and I believe wants us to know today that we are not sufficient in and of ourselves for the work to which we are called to do.

Now I don't mean that we're not supplied with what we need but within our own strength we lack what we truly need. There's a tendency for us to want to man up and muscle up and get her done, get the job done. But I want to encourage us towards something else. And so this work that God has called in building the spiritual temple with the living stones will not be accomplished by our own might or by our own power. It will only be accomplished by the Spirit of the Lord and we read that not by might, not by power, but by my spirit says the Lord.

And with that Spirit, that spiritual supply, we are richly supplied with everything that we need to do the work that God has called us to do. He will supply all of our needs according to his riches and glory and according to his continual supply of the Holy Spirit with strength and grace to complete the work that he has laid out for us. And this work, it seems overwhelmingly impossible when we look at the goal of evangelizing the nations, when we look at the goal of evangelizing the nations, when we look at the goal of evangelizing our neighbors, when we went to that pride festival, I mean when you looked at what was taking place, did you have the confidence that we can move into that arena, if you will, and we can shine the light of the gospel to such an extent that all the darkness would be cast out. There's a tendency for us to walk into a situation like that and feel like man we're just a little match and the winds blowing and sometimes we act like that. Praise God I didn't see that happening.

I saw I saw men and being bold with their faith and I thank God for that. In our strength we are very weak because we're not fighting a battle that can be fought by the strength of the flesh. Flesh. But God will be our supply. Zechariah was commissioned to arouse the people from their sleepy indifference.

And he was commissioned to stir them up and to call them out to rebuild the temple. Now I'm not saying that we're going to rebuild a temple. I'm saying that we are in the process of building the temple of God and it's God's work. Jesus Christ says, I will build my church and he's doing that, but obviously he's doing that through the preaching of the gospel. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God and he has called us to the task of proclaiming the gospel to every creature and as we proclaim the gospel to every creature it will build up the spiritual church these living stones will be added into the walls of this spiritual temple made for God.

So think about what Peter says in 1st Peter in chapter 2. He says this, coming to him as to a living stone rejected indeed by men but chosen by God and precious. You also as living stones are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. Therefore it is also contained in the scripture, behold I lay in Zion a chief cornerstone elect precious and he who believes on him will by no means be put to shame. Therefore to you who believe he is precious but to those who are disobedient the stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone and a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense.

They stumbled being disobedient to the word to which they also were appointed. But you, You are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light, who once were not a people, but now are the people of God who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy. I love Peter's heart here. Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims abstain from fleshly lust which war against the soul, having your conduct honorable among the Gentiles, that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works which they observe, glorify God in the day of visitation. This thing seems so fresh and real to me as I read these words and considering we are wanting to be a built up, we are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, We want to be a holy nation.

We want to proclaim the praises of Him who has called us out of darkness and we're wanting to call them out of darkness. And they speak evil of you. We've seen that. They literally have spoken evil of us. They said that the police were there in such numbers to protect them and their children from the Christians.

But listen to what Peter says. I beg you, as sojourners and pilgrims abstain from fleshly lust which war against the soul, having your conduct honorable among the Gentiles, that when they speak against you as evildoers, They may by your good works which they observe glorify God on the day of visitation. They may not glorify God now but on the day of visitation they will. When Christ returns they will glorify God, the Bible says, for your holy conduct. So I want to encourage us to live a holy life, but this first thing that I want us to do, I want us to wake up and see what God is doing.

That's what happened to Zerubbabel. God had given him, or that's what happened to Zechariah, God had given him all of these visions. And no doubt we see throughout the scriptures when a man has been really pressed in with multitudes of visions and revelations from the Lord, that they become sleepy in a sense. They're overwhelmed or pressed in with so much information coming at them that it becomes overwhelming in a sense and you almost become paralyzed. I think that's what Scott was saying last week is that our heads are big full of really good theology.

Like we have doctrine down, but we need to awake out of sleep and we need to take that great doctrine and we need to do something with it because if it's just to make our heads bigger then what good is that if it does not penetrate our hearts and that the in penetrating our hearts that the love of God is then spread abroad so that we go and be a light to this Gentile world to this lost and dying world. And I think that's kind of the picture I see anyway of what happened to Zechariah when the angel came and he woke him up as a man who was asleep, who was awakened out of sleep. So the encouragement here that I see is I want us to wake up and see what God is doing. God is doing something very actively, I believe, in our culture, in our society. There's a lot of things taking place.

He's always at work but There are times when it seems as if God is doing something very specific and on a larger scale. I don't think any of us can deny that. And we need to see what the Lord is saying. I want you to see what God's saying. It says, now the angel who talked with me came back and awakened me as a man who is awakened out of his sleep and he said to me, what do you see?

I hope that this church, again I'm not trying to take this text out of context, but I want to apply it to us. What do you see the Lord doing? Because that's what the angel is asking Zechariah, what do you see? What are you seeing here? So I said I'm looking and there is a lampstand of solid gold and a bowl on top of it and on the stand seven lamps with seven pipes to the seven lamps.

Two olive trees are by it, one on the right hand of the bowl and the other on the left. So I answered and spoke to the angel who talked with me saying, what are these my lord? There had never been an image like this. There was no lamp stand like this in the temple. There were lamp stands, lamp stands that the priest would come daily and they would refill the oil so that the light would continue to shine.

There's a lot of typology, if you will, in the temple and in the objects of the temple and the furniture of the temple that relate to the beautiful things that we see in the gospel but sometimes we don't understand what we're seeing and but I believe that the lampstand was given there that it was a testimony that Jesus Christ is the light of the world and Jesus says that we are the light of the world But there was no lampstand like this ever produced in the temple. So what was it that God was wanting Zechariah to see and to understand? He wanted to awaken him out of his sleep. We begin this with this sleepy prophet, and I'm not blaming him, this is not a cut upon Zechariah. He had seen visions that God had given him and was doing what would most likely all of us would do.

We would be somewhat exhausted with the revelation that he was seeing and overwhelmed with the heaviness of the visions that he had seen. However, I want us to understand that to whom much is given much is required. God has given us much brothers and sisters. He has given us a clear preaching of the Word of God. He's given us great liberty to proclaim that gospel.

He has given us the ability to do so by the work of His Spirit within. Like we have resources at our fingertips that we can draw from to do things and to whom much is given, to whom much is given. It seems as if the temptation to whom much is given is to rest upon that much that was given. I personally get convicted when I hear about other believers around the world who have nothing and are vigorous in their testimony of the gospel and their their light that is shining in dark places, really dark places. And our temptation is to rest upon our abundance.

The temptation again is to get sleepy with the abundance. I believe that there's more that God wants us to see and to do. God did not give us much so that we could consume much. But I believe he gives us much so that we would do much. And what would he have us to do?

He would have us to do and spend ourselves for the work of the kingdom of God. There's a danger, and I'm not saying that we're here, but there is a danger for a church to become like the church of Laodicea. It's interesting all the relationships here between this passage in Zechariah and then with Peter and now in Revelation. And it says this in chapter 3, and the angel and to the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write, these things says the amen the faithful and true witness the beginning of the creation of God I know your works that you are neither cold nor hot I could wish that you were cold or hot so then because you were lukewarm and neither cold nor hot I will vomit you out of my mouth." Listen to what he says, "'Because you say I am rich and have become wealthy and have need of nothing and do not know that you're wretched and miserable, poor and blind and naked. I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire that you may be rich and white garments that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed and anoint your eyes with eye salve that you may see.

I want us to see something. I want us to see what the vision that God is given to us in that we are to be the light of the world. It's an overwhelming task. The danger of wealth, brothers and sisters, is that we come to think that we have need of nothing. I don't know if you've ever been without, if you've ever been in really tight spots, and you're a believer, your prayer life greatly increases because you have need of something.

And the danger and the temptation is, is when the bank account's full and when the resources are full, you're just like, man, okay, I'm good. I don't really need much. But when things are tight, we recognize our great need. It's just the tendency of the human heart. We need, brothers and sisters, to be awakened to our great need whether we are rich or poor.

The fact is our great need is the same whether you're rich or poor. Our wealth and our abundance does not change our need And what I want to relate that to is if we think that we can go in the strength and the provision that we can supply, we are going to miserably fail. I thank God for the zeal of youth. It's a wonderful thing and I thank God for the wisdom of the mature and the aged because it's a wonderful thing. And when those two things get together, I believe we will have God's supply.

And I'm not saying that the youth lack. Don't hear me saying this, but I'm just saying you have a zeal that, man, I wish I still had that energy and I praise God for it but I want us to understand that if we go in the strength only of our flesh we will lack supply. We will be like that lamp stand that is not like this lamp stand. Remember this lamp stand has a bowl on the top and tubes going to every light and not only does it have a reservoir of oil that's feeding to the lights which will make it last a little longer, right? Remember the priest would have to go in every day and add oil to the lamps.

But God so much greatly or much greater supplied the need because now you have two olive trees that are planted beside on the right hand and on the left hand of the bowl and they are dripping into the reservoir. That's an abundant supply. That's an unending supply. That's a ceaseless supply. That's a supply that does not need to be added to.

That is something that is going to pour forth continually to keep that light burning and I'm going to bring this I hope to a really clear understanding for us. We need to also be awakened to see what God is doing with and for the church. In Revelation chapter 1 verse 20, the mystery of the seven stars which you saw in my right hand and the seven golden lampstands, the seven stars are the angels of the seven churches. Listen, and the seven lampstands which you saw are the seven churches. There's a relationship here between this lampstand and he's giving us a clue here that the lampstand is a representation of the church of the Lord Jesus Christ.

That we are to be the light of the world because Jesus is the light of the world and he supplies us. One commentator Benson said this candlestick had one bowl or common receiver on the top into which oil was continually dropping and from it by seven pipes or conduits it was conveyed to the seven lamps so that without any further care they received oil as fast as they wasted it. And so were kept always burning and the bowl too was continually supplied without any care or attendance of man from the two olive trees, one on each side of the candlestick, which were so fat and fruitful that of their own accord they poured plenty of oil continually into the bowl, so that Nobody needed to attend to this candlestick, to furnish it with oil, to tarry it tarried not for man, nor waited for the sons of men, the scope of which is to show that God easily can and often does accomplish his gracious purposes concerning his church by his own wisdom and his own power without any art or labor of man and though sometimes he makes use of instruments yet he neither needs them nor is confined to them but can do his work without them and will rather than it shall remain undone." God is pouring forth a continual supply of what we need as a church to be the light in this dark world.

This is the vision that he's seeing. He's wanting Zechariah to understand God will be your supply. He will give you all that you need. The angel asks this question, do you not know what these things are? This is not a rebuke I don't think, but rather a question to whet his appetite to understand more.

That would cause him to say, no my Lord, what a humble and respectful response. And his answer is this, this vision is the Word of the Lord. This is God speaking to you. He's wanting you to understand what he's saying. This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel.

God wanted Zechariah to know that the vision was God's word to Zerubbabel. And Zerubbabel was the somewhat the civil ruler, if you would. He was going to accomplish the rebuilding of that temple. Secondly in verses 5-10 I want us to wake up and hear what God is saying. We woke up first to see what God is doing and now we want to wake up and hear what God is saying.

He says this, then the angel who talked with me answered and said to me, do you not know what these are? And I said no my lord. So he answered and said to me, this is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel, not by might nor by power, but by my spirit, says the Lord of Host. Who are you, O great mountain? This seemed like the most odd question to me as I'm reading through this.

He's asking a mountain, who are you? Who are you, O great mountain? But listen to what his response is to this mountain. Before Zerubbabel, you shall become a plane. You shall become a plane.

This work in verses 5 and 6 we see is not done by might and is not done by power. The words might here just means physical strength, it means wealth, it means ability, it means troops, it means strength, it means noble character, it means large group, and it means vigor. All of these are good things, right? But brothers and sisters, the work of the Lord will not be done by these things. He says not by power.

Much the same as might, slightly different. It means power and might, the potential to exert force in performing some function. What is the force and our potential to do something? As we go out into the neighborhoods and we're knocking on doors and we're taking these handouts that say the gospel. If it's only the physical act and the potential that we exert in handing somebody a track that says the gospel, if that's the limit of what we are doing it will be fruitless.

It is not by might, it is not by power. If we sing louder than all of their drums and all of their horns and all of their Chaos, it will not be accomplished. I have to say I took great delight I told my wife when I got home I said honey I was finally able to sing to my full potential. If you've ever sat around me when I sing, you know, I'm a little on the loud side. I was able to sing to full potential when I was standing on that street.

I actually got horse in my throat and I thank God for it. It was exciting and invigorating. But that won't do it. It won't do it. It's not by might, it's not by power, but by my Spirit says the Lord.

Brothers and sisters as we go to take the light of the gospel to this world we must go in the power of the Holy Spirit. We must be filled with the Holy Spirit. We must walk in the Holy Spirit. We must love by the Spirit. We must give all that we are to accomplish this task but it must be done in humility and in the feeling of the Holy Spirit.

This work will seem impossible. Who are you, oh great mountain? This was also used in the New Testament in Matthew so Jesus answered and said to them, surely I say to you if you have faith and do not doubt you will not only do what was done to this fig tree but also if you say to this mountain be removed and cast into the sea it will be done and whatever things you ask in prayer believing you will receive. We must understand this. We must stop relying upon our own strength and start relying upon the power of the Holy Spirit to move mountains.

And what I'm talking about here is not physical dirt. I'm talking about, we're not earth movers in that sense, but what I'm talking about is the power of the Holy Spirit to remove all spiritual obstacles to the advancement of the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. We don't have enough shovels in our own strength. I don't care if you got a bobcat or a bulldozer, you can't do it. But notice what he says, Jesus tells them, and whatsoever things you ask in prayer believing you will receive.

Lord we want this mountain, this obstacle, this thing that is coming against this immovable seemingly immovable object that is growing in front of us and in our town. Lord, we ask you to make it a plane, like cast it down and do away with this thing, cast it into the sea, and we ask God to do it, not by our own strength, not so that we can boast in our pride and boast in our plans. We want to see it done for the glory of God and the advancement of His kingdom. And it cannot be done unless God does it. And we must be asking God to do it.

The encouragement is in verse 8 & 9, it will be done. He tells Zerubbabel here, the hand, moreover the word of the Lord came to me saying the hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this temple, his hand shall also finish it." Jesus Christ was given the great commission of building his church. And he incorporated us into that. All power was given to him in heaven and on earth, all authority. And he's commanded us to go into all the world and take the gospel.

We are commissioned along with our head Jesus Christ to finish this temple and by God's grace and God's power and God's supply it shall be finished. God will finish this work. He will accomplish it and it'll be marvelous in our eyes. Notice what he says in verse 9 in the middle part of that. He says his hands shall also finish it.

Listen, then you will know that the Lord of Hosts has sent me to you." We walk by faith in this great commission. We walk with the belief that God is going to accomplish what he set out to accomplish, but I want you to know that when it is accomplished, we will know. And this word for know is a very forceful know of knowing something experientially and knowing something that we've seen take place. God will cause us to know and to understand what he has done. I understand that this means that on that day our faith will be turned to sight and then we will know experientially.

It means to be familiar with something. It means to acquire information by experience and to understand, to comprehend a situation through observation. We will see the completed work of the spiritual temple of God, the place where we will worship God and he will dwell. And that will be a glorious thing. In 1st Corinthians 13 we read this, but when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away.

Notice when I was a child I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child, but when I became a man I put away childish things. For now we see in a mirror dimly but then face to face. Now I know in part but then I shall know just as I also am known." And what I mean by that is we're going to see it so clearly that God did this work. And it will cause the Gentiles to praise him. All nations of the earth, every tribe, tongue, and people, but don't be discouraged that the work seems so small.

You remember when they were building this temple there was a great host of people there and you had some that were older who had seen the former temple you had some that were younger who had never seen the temple and there was this great commotion of noise and some were weeping and some were shouting for joy and you couldn't tell the difference between who was weeping and who was shouting for joy because the older folks had seen the former temper and they were weeping because this one seemed so small. But then you had others who hadn't seen anything and they were just thrilled to death that there was something. It's kind of like that now. That's what I was talking about, the vigor of youth. They get excited over these things that God is doing and us old folks well we've seen some of that before and it's not as great as it used to be.

Well bless our hearts. Let us rejoice with those who rejoice. Let us be invigorated with the invigoration of the youth and let's encourage them and let us give wisdom so that we can funnel all of this energy to doing great things through the power of the Holy Spirit and through much prayer and through fasting and seeking the face of the Lord on which mountain it is that he wants to cast down into the sea. And let us be diligent about these things. For who has despised the day of small things?

Don't despise the day of small things. You know in one sense it seems interesting to me that this It almost is a picture here for us of the beginnings of the New Testament Church. It was a small thing that began with just a few apostles. You know, I don't think that I'm foundationless on saying this. In Ephesians 2.20 it says, having been built on the foundation of the Apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone in whom the whole building being fitted together grows into a holy temple in the Lord.

It seems like these things go together. In whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit. This is the work. This work was overseen by the Lord. I don't spend too much time here regarding his seven eyes, the eyes of the Lord.

Seven eyes, it just means perfection. He sees everything. He scans to and fro throughout the whole earth and he sees all that is taking place and he's orchestrating all of the elect to come from the four winds of the earth to all come into this holy spiritual temple that is being built for his worship. What God rejoices in brothers and sisters, God said he rejoiced to see the line in his hand. We should rejoice even over the small things when the line is in the hand.

If God rejoices over it, shouldn't we? Praise God! You know sometimes we get so bogged down in our theology when we see a young person or we see a really lost person. We're all really lost until we're saved, right? But a lost person, you think, there's no way they could be saved.

They get saved. Sometimes we're like, well, let's just wait and see. Let us rejoice that God has caused a sinner to repent and to trust in the Lord Jesus Christ. Let us rejoice with God over the salvation of souls and let us give room for the Holy Spirit of God to work on them like guess what he's still working on us. The last thing in verses 11 through 14, wake up and understand what God has richly supplied.

And then I answered and said to him, what are these two olive trees? He's still wanting to, what are these things? At the right of the lampstand and at the left. And I further answered and said to him what are these two olive branches that drip into the receptacles of the two golden pipes from which the golden oil drains and he said to me and then he answered and said to me do you not know what these are? He keeps asking that don't you understand this?

Causing him to ask and I said no my Lord so we said these are the two anointed ones who stand beside the Lord of the whole earth. Now I want to be accurate and careful with my interpretation of this but I want it to be a great encouragement. Some, there is some uncertainty regarding the exact identity of these two. We know there's two that were mentioned in the book of Revelation. We also can understand why some would say this is Zerubbabel and Joshua, those two representatives, one of the priestly line and the civil line that were going to do this great work of building.

I think that they are a picture of that and I think there's another fuller picture of that. I believe that those are pictures or types but I believe the substance of it is this, the two anointed ones, those whom God has anointed to do this great work, and that is Christ and the Holy Spirit. Christ is going to build his church and the Holy Spirit is going to give his supply. He is going to give us all that we need. I was very thankful that when I looked into a commentary that I didn't stand alone on this interpretation that makes you feel good sometimes as a preacher you have this idea and you think is this right and then you find somebody else who might be wrong with you.

No you find somebody else who confirms okay I'm not off the deep end on this thing. Matthew Henry says Christ is not only the Messiah the anointed one himself but he is the good olive to his church. And from his fullness we receive and the Holy Spirit is the unction or anointing which we have received. From Christ the olive tree by the spirit of the olive branch to the golden oil of grace flows to believers which keeps their lamps burning. Let us seek through the intercession and bounty of the Savior supplies from that fullness which has hitherto sufficed for all his saints.

According to their trials and employments, let us wait on him in his ordinances, desiring to be sanctified holy in body, soul, and spirit." And what I see that God is wanting us to understand, brothers and sisters, we do not have to go in our own might. We do not have to go in our own might, we do not have to go in our own power, but by the grace of God and the anointing that we have of the Holy Spirit of his continual ceaseless supply we can go by his spirit says the Lord And when we go by his Spirit, we will lack no good thing. It is the continual pouring out of the power of the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer to accomplish this great work. He enables you to shine. Shine therefore.

Get your lamp out from under the table and put it on a lamp stand and don't be ashamed of that light. Let that light so shine. For thus says the Lord of Host once more, it is a little while I shall shake heaven and earth, the sea and dry land, and I will shake all nations, and they shall come to the desire of all nations. And I will fill this temple with glory, says the Lord of Hosts. The silver is mine and the gold is mine, says the Lord of Hosts.

The glory of this latter temple shall be greater than the former, says the Lord of Hosts. And in this place I will give peace says the Lord of Host. This is the temple that God is building and he will do it. He will accomplish every bit of it. So brothers and sisters let us wake up to the work that God has called us to do.

Let us wake up and hear what God is saying to us and what we see happening and let us wake up and realize that we have an abundant supply to accomplish all that God has called us to do in this world. We are to be Christ's witnesses to the ends of the earth. So get your lamp out from under the table. Let your light so shine as Matthew says, you are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden, nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand.

And it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. Amen. Let's pray. Our Father, oh Lord, help us to see with that heavenly vision of what you're doing in this earth.

Lord, we cannot accomplish this in our own strength we ask you for that abundant supply you've given us that you've given unto us all things that pertain to life and godliness you have given us the continual and abundant supply of the Holy Spirit You do not give your spirit by measure. We have an infinite supply and the more we use the more you fill. So God would you please fill us with your spirit. That we would walk in the Spirit and be filled with the Spirit and that we would go forth in the Spirit and we would take the Word of God and we would shine that light in this dark world and Lord I pray that you would take this one particular mountain of the pride of man, and that you would cast it into the sea. Amen.
