Genesis chapter 3 this evening and we'll go ahead and read for our text verses one through nine. Genesis three, beginning of verse one, and going down to verse nine. Now the serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field which Yahweh God had made. He said to the woman, Indeed has God said, You shall not eat from any tree of the garden. And the woman said to the serpent, from the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat, but from the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God said, you shall not eat from it, you shall not touch it, lest you die.' And the serpent said to the woman, You surely will not die, for God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened and you'll be like God, knowing good and evil.

Then the woman saw that the tree was good for food and that it was a delight to the eyes that the tree was desirable to make one wise. So she took from its fruit and ate. She gave also to her husband with her, and he ate. The eyes of both of them were opened and they knew that they were naked and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loin coverings. Then they heard the sound of Yahweh God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of Yahweh God in the midst of the trees of the garden.

Yahweh God called to the man and said to him, Where are you? Verse 9 will be our text. The title of my sermon is Where Are You? Where Are You? Let's again go to the Lord in prayer.

Our Father in heaven, how thankful we are to be able to gather in this place and at this time. Lord, I'm thankful that we have the freedom to be able to do this, to meet in an open public place without fear of persecution. Lord, that you've given us and each one of us a desire to come and to be here. Lord, I thank you for the beauty of this Lord, to be able to enjoy a beautiful day like this, and to be able to come together and look into your word to be able to preach it to be able to hear it Lord I thank you for these things I thank you our Father, for the truthfulness of your Word, and I pray that as we gather together here, I pray for each one who's here today. And I pray for those who may come by or listen in.

I pray that your word will find a lodging place in all of our hearts, Lord, that your people will be strengthened and encouraged, Lord, even pricked if that's what's needed. And Lord I pray that you'll be with others who may not know you, that today may be the day that they come to know you as their Savior, or that they may be saved. I pray that you will add to our church, And I pray that you will help us to be a light and a testimony to you in this community that we live in. Help us Lord to be faithful. Forgive us of our sins.

Fortune Jesus and then we pray. Amen. Amen. In this text, we find that Adam and Eve have disobeyed God. They've sinned against God.

And while they tried to hide themselves from God, we find that they were not able to do so for long. In fact, the reality is God knew all along where they were. And our God is the same God that was there in the garden. Our God is the same God who created this whole world. And while he does not speak audibly like he did back then, the question is asked, where are you?

Where are you? Nothing happens by chance in this world, but the reality is that God will get your attention. It is no mistake that you're here today, that you hear this preaching of this message. There's no mistake that if you're listening to this later on Sermon Audio or YouTube, it's no mistake that you hear this. And just as Yahweh God was there in the garden calling out, Adam, where are you?

So it is that he may be calling out to you. Where are you? Where are you? Adam and Eve had gotten to a place, a terrible place, where they never should have been. They should not have been in that place.

They had rebelled against God. They had sinned. They committed high treason against their Creator. They had but that one thing that they were not supposed to eat, but they ate of it. And so in their fallen state, they hid themselves, trying to hide with their fig leaf garments, trying to hide where they were.

God called out to them saying, Adam, where are you? He knew where Adam was. There was no emergency in the throne room of heaven for God to say, well, what are we going to do now? God was not wringing his hand trying to figure out what to do next now that this has happened, but Adam needed to know where he was. Adam needed to come face to face with the realization of what had happened.

And the voice of Yahweh God crying in that garden that day, where are you Adam? Where are you Adam? Was not something that had ever occurred before because prior to that there had been great fellowship. When God was there, there was great fellowship. No one, Not Adam, not Eve, they never thought to hide themselves, but there they were, hiding.

As we read of the events of that day, we think of it. They had been given a great garden and so much to eat. Why did they need that one fruit? There's no logic to sin. And how foolish was it for Adam and for Eve to think that they could somehow hide themselves from God, from their Creator, the one who had made them and made everything around them.

Maybe they thought, oh, here comes Yahweh God. Maybe we can hide ourselves in the bushes. Maybe he won't notice us. Hurry, let's hide here until he passes by. Once he's gone, then we can have our run of the place.

Once he has gone on, we can do what we want, and then when he comes back, we'll hide again. How dumb does that sound? How foolish were they? There is no place in this world that you can hide from God. The one who had made the open field where they were exposed also made the bushes.

The one who had created them naked knew where they were, though they had clothed themselves with fig leaves. We read Genesis chapter three and we think of it as purely historical. And it is historical, Absolutely. There really was a Garden of Eden. There really was a serpent.

There really was an Adam. There really was an Eve. It really was a beautiful place. But have you read this But have you read this and considered that this is a personal matter? Have you considered not just the sin of Adam, not just the sin of Eve, but have you considered your own sin?

Have you considered yourself? Where are you this evening? You might say, well, I'm right here, Jekyll Island, beautiful Jekyll Island in Georgia. And that is correct. But the question cuts much deeper than that.

The question, where are you? Where are you David? Where are you Isaiah? The question we all must ask, where are we? As we read this text and understand, as we look at this text to understand, we ought to examine our own lives in the light of God's Word.

Are you, am I, Are we, like Adam, trying to hide from God? There are people, perhaps even people in this area, Perhaps even on this island, perhaps our neighbors, perhaps people in our own homes who are able to run from church, who are able to run from their family, who are able to hide from church, to hide from their family. Your church, your family might not know some of your deepest, darkest secrets. You might be able to, quote, hide in the bushes, hide behind the fig leaves that you've got going on to be able to trick or deceive your fellow man, but run away from God? You can't.

The Bible makes it clear that God knew Adam. One of the things I pointed out as we went through Genesis, chapter one, we read of the creation, day one, day two, day three, day four, it was always in Elohim, God, a general name for God. But when we get to chapter two and we read the details of the creation of man, we learn of his personal name, Yahweh, Why? Because there was a personal relationship between God and man that did not exist with any other creature. Nowhere else in the universe did that relationship exist except between God and man.

The Bible makes it clear that he knew Adam specially. He had created Adam and Eve in the image and likeness of who? God. He knew him. He knew Adam better than Adam knew Adam.

And today I submit to you that he knows you better than you know you. He knows your name. He knows the very hair on your head. He knows the thoughts, the secrets of even your heart. Hebrews chapter 4.

Hebrews chapter 4 verses 12 and 13. Hebrews chapter 4 verses 12 and 13. For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. And there is no creature hidden from his sight. There is no creature hidden from his sight, but all things are uncovered and laid bare to the eyes of him to whom we have an account to give.

Adam and Eve, They tried to hide themselves. They said, we're naked, we're ashamed, we've sinned, we're going to hide ourselves back yonder in the bushes, we're going to clothe ourselves with fig leaves. But they were still naked and bare before their Creator. You and I, we may try to hide, run from God, whatever it may be. And the question comes up, where are you?

Where are you today? Physical hiding, no good. Physical hiding no good. The question wasn't just about physically. Where are you physically, Adam?

No, no. As the question comes to us, it's not just about the physical. Where are you physically? Yes, that's important. We all have a place to be physically, and we should be in the right places physically.

I'm thankful that you chose to be here tonight physically for the preaching of God's Word. That's a good thing to do. But where are you mentally? You know it's possible to be in church under the preaching of God's Word, but to be somewhere else mentally. No one else may know it.

The greatest of Pharisees, if they were here today, would be in church, but mentally they're somewhere else, aren't they? And they could say, check, I'm at church. And they could say, I'm the greatest Christian in the world. But mentally, they're somewhere else. The greatest of hypocrites, the most terrible of lost men, pretenders.

Judas Iscariot was probably a great church member, But he was mentally somewhere else. Have you checked out? Is your mind somewhere else? How terrible It is. Where are you in your thinking?

To be a Christian is not just about the intellect. It's not just about mentally, But it is that. You don't leave your brains at the door whenever you become a Christian. There may be people, again, on this island, in our neighborhood, in our own homes, that maybe think to themselves that they have rejected the message of Christ and the message of the Bible. You know, Adam and Eve rejected the message of God.

Accepted the message of God. They thought, they felt pretty good about themselves that day when they ate of that fruit. Intellectually, mentally, they were told by the serpent that the day that they ate thereof that they would be as gods. In other words, they felt like they had outsmarted God. Maybe they felt pretty big and tough when they grabbed hold of that fruit that God had said no and they ate it.

They believed that they were going to be gods in Yahweh's garden. But when Yahweh showed up, where were they? They were reduced to bushes. They were hiding. They were hiding away from the true God.

And is that where you are today? As your Bible sits neglected in the corner somewhere, rejected, day after day you think you're going to live life your way. The reality is, the question is, where are you? The reality is that just like with Adam and Eve, one day you will meet up with God. Hebrews chapter 9.

Hebrews chapter 9. Verse 27. Verse 27. And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once, and after this comes judgment. You and I all have an appointment with death.

It's a reality. The moment that a baby is born, that baby is beginning to die. It's a process, But that baby begins to die and the first breath is going to lead to the last breath. We all are on a journey through life that will eventually end up in the grave. I may preach some of you all's funeral, or I may preach none of your funeral, because if I die first, you all may show up at my funeral.

I don't know. None of us know, but the reality is that unless the Lord comes back first we're all destined to die. Destined to die. Death is a reality. And then, The judgment.

Then the judgment. What's this mean? Well, this means that we cannot. You cannot, I cannot. None of us can get away from God.

Will you take heed of the call now, here, in this life? Or no? The message is plain. The call is simple. Where are you?

Where are you, Adam? Where are you spiritually? This is the most important question. Your zip code, yeah, that's important. Where you're at physically, yes, that is important.

But spiritually is so much more important. Are you saved? Do you know Jesus? Do you love him? Do you delight in him?

Is your greatest concern in this life to please our Lord and to live to His glory and His honor. Unless that is your purpose, you're a vile sinner in danger of an eternity in hell. So the reality is you could be the very best of people in your peer group, in your club, in your circle. That's not enough to get you to heaven. Romans chapter three and verse 23 says, all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.

All have sinned and come short of the glory of God. All have sinned and come short of the glory of God. If you would imagine that there was a big target, And your life and my life were somehow measured up to that target. We'd all miss the mark. None of us.

If we were to take the very best nanosecond of your life, it wouldn't be enough to get you into heaven. You need a savior. You need Jesus. You need our God. Where are you?

Where are you? God's not interested in your excuses. Oh, how people try to reason all this away. He's not interested in your excuses. You go and you try to invite people to church, and you invite them, and they always have excuses.

Oh, I can't come to church because I got this problem, I got this going on, I got this going on. Oh, I don't have time for my Bible, I got this going on, I got this going on. I can't deal with this right now. I got this going on, I got that going on. One of these days, beloved, Time's going to be up.

God's not interested in your excuses. He's not coming for your debates. He's not coming for your arguments, your philosophies, your opinions, your stories. Far too many people in this world, they think that they're in some position to be able to evaluate God. And so they take Christianity, the God of the Bible, And they investigate the God and they take a look at the God of Catholicism and they take a look at the God of the Buddhists and they take a look at the God of the Hindus and they go through all of these things and they investigate all of these different things and ideas and religions and so on and so forth as if they're in control of the narrative.

But that's not how this works, you see. It works exactly the way it worked in the garden. God is not up for debate. Christianity is not up for debate. Over in Hebrews chapter 11, Hebrews chapter 11 and verse 6.

And without faith it is impossible to please him for he who draws near to God must believe that he is a rewarder of those who seek him. Where are you? He wants you. He wants you. You say, preacher, you don't know where I've been.

You don't know what I've done. God don't want me. I understand. I understand. God wouldn't want me either.

Reality is, he wouldn't want none of us. Jesus said in John chapter 6, in verse 37, He said, all that the Father gives me will come to me. And the one who comes to me I will never cast out. And in Matthew chapter 11 verses 28 through 30. Come to me, Jesus says, all who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Think it's pretty stressful hiding in the bushes, hiding from God, absolutely. But Jesus says, come to me. Yahweh God was in the garden saying, where are you Adam? Come Adam, come. Come to me all who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart. You will find rest for your souls, for my yoke is easy and my burden is light." light. The call is given and you can come. Not because of how much you clean yourself up, no no, because them fig leaves they weren't good enough. You can't clean yourself up enough.

There's not enough that you could possibly do to get to God. It's not about what you've done. It's about what Jesus has done. In fact, as we begin to bring this to a close here, in Ephesians chapter 2 Ephesians chapter 2 and verses 8 through 9. One of my favorite passages in passages in the book of Ephesians here.

Ephesians 2, 8 and 9. It says this, for by grace, Ephesians 2 verses 8 and 9, for by grace you have been saved through faith, this not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, not of works, so that no one may boast. Grace is the unmerited favor of God Adam Eve they deserve to rot and hidden away there in the garden, away from God. But it was the mercy of God that we read that Yahweh came and called to them and said, Adam, where are you? And it is the mercy of God that the call comes out today through the preaching of the gospel.

Where are you? Will you repent? Will you turn from your ways and run to Jesus? Believe on Him. Cry out to God.

He'll not refuse anyone who comes to him. May God add the blessing to the preaching of his word. Thank you.
