Thank you, brother. Good morning, everybody. It's good to be back with you here. Tell them, Brother Green, I think I've already told most of you, but I'll tell them, Brother Green, while I go, this is my second home. So y'all don't get the idea of running me off.

I'm going to come back and get the opportunities I get. If you would this morning, turn with me to the book of 1 Thessalonians. Probably going to be something you've heard real recently, maybe like a little bit of in Sunday school this morning. That's how God works. If He gives us a double message, then there's a reason.

If He says it twice in His Word, Pay attention. So anyway, I'm sure things will be a little bit different this morning from what you've heard and probably completely different. But it is to go, if you found 1 Thessalonians 4 chapter, Hold your finger there, flip back just a few pages to 1 Corinthians chapter 15. I want to share a couple of verses with you there before we get into our message today, how to build up to where we'll be in 1 Thessalonians. Before we get started with that, we need help from the Lord.

So if you would, let's have a word of prayer. Father, as we come to you this morning, Father, we come as humbly, Lord, as we can. Father, we just thank you, Lord, for the blessings of this day. And Father, I thank you this morning, Father, for the privilege that I've been given, Lord, that I could come and speak to these nine people here at this church. Father, I just pray, Lord, that you will just help me to rightly divide your Word.

Father, I pray that you will just hide me behind the cross, that no one will see me but only Jesus Christ and His Word. Father, we pray your blessings will be continued upon this church, upon their pastor. Father, we just pray as they go forward, Father, that they will go in a way, Lord, that will be pleasing and will bring honor to you. And Father, I do pray this morning for all churches, Lord, that are standing and proclaiming your word. Lord, I ask that you would be with each and every one.

Now Father as we go into your Word, Father we just pray that we would just close out the world, that our ears would be opened, that our eyes would be opened, that we might hear and understand Father the things you have said before us. Forgive us now Lord and I pray in Christ's name, Amen. So in 1 Corinthians chapter 15, I want to read verses 51 and 52. Now there's a lot more that I would like to put into this message, but when you try to put so much of the Bible into a few minute message it's kind of hard to do. So y'all bear with me I can't share everything about this particular subject that we'll be talking about this morning.

But pay attention to what we do have. 1st Corinthians 15 verses 51 and 52. Paul says, Here, behold, I show you a mystery. You shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed In a moment in the twinkling of an eye at the last trump, for the trumpet shall sound and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. Now go to our main text, 1 Thessalonians 4.

We want to pick up in verses 13 and go through 18. 1 Thessalonians 4, verses 13 through 18. Paul says here to the church at Thessalonica, But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that you saw or not, even as others which have no hope. In Titus 2 and verse 13, I think it's there, is called the Blessed Hope. Verse 14, For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also, which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him?

For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God, and the dead in Christ shall rise first. Then we which are alive and remain shall be called up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air, and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore, confit one another with these words." The subject I want to talk to you today about, if you haven't figured it out, it is the rapture. Now I would say the rapture of the church, and I really believe that's what we're looking at here, but there's some things I don't fully understand.

So I'm just gonna call it the rapture. Now his church is gonna be included in that. Don't get me wrong, I'm not excluding his church, but there's some things I don't understand. And One thing of it, there's so many beliefs out there about the rapture, about the second coming, it's so easy to get yourself confused. I have to look hard into God's Word and I have to pray and I have to study.

Because there's just some things. Even this thing here, as we read over in 1 Corinthians, Paul said he was going to reveal to them a mystery. There were some things a mystery. Now we have the complete written Word of God, but still some things a mystery to me. It just is.

But as I said, I don't know this morning. People have different views of when the rapture is going to take place. We have people that are pre-trib, like me. That means this rapture is going to take place before the tribulation. We've got those that believe mid-trib, that the rapture is going to take place before the tribulation.

We got those that believe mid-trium, that the rapture is going to take place in the middle of the tribulation. Then we got the post-trium, And they believe after the tribulation when this is going to happen. But according to my Bible and all the studying I can do and through the leadership of the Holy Spirit, I have to lean to the pre-trial. You just have to do that. Now a lot of people get the rapture confused with the second coming of Christ, but there are so many differences that the Bible teaches.

Before we get into our message this morning, I'm going to give you just a few. Not an exhausted list, but a few of the differences between the rapture and the second coming of Christ. I'm not going to give you the verses for the sake of time, but I have verses that can be proven according to the Bible. The first thing you want to see is the difference between the rapture and the second coming. We contrast these two.

We look at what's happening in the rapture. And then we see what the Bible teaches about the second coming. So let's look at some of these things. Number one, in the rapture is the translation of all believers. The second coming to Christ, There's no translation at all.

There's none. Second thing, in the rapture, translated saints, they go to heaven. In the second coming of Christ, translated saints, they return to earth. Think about these differences as we go through them. I know I'm going in a hurry.

Third thing we can see about the rapture, earth is not judged. But in the second coming of Christ, the earth is judged and righteousness is established. Fourth thing, the rapture can come at any time. It's imminent. Christ could come right now.

Just like that. And let's pray that He does. Let's pray that He does. But it can come at any moment. There's no signs to be given of the rapture.

But in the second coming coming of Christ, it comes after predictive signs including the tribulation. The rapture, I don't see it in the Old Testament. And now some people, I don't see the rapture in the Old Testament. Some people say, what about Enoch? Was he not raptured?

What about Elijah? Was he not raptured? Well, I don't believe the Old Testament in itself as a whole teaches about the rapture. But The second coming of Christ is talked about quite often in the Old Testament. And the rapture, Christ comes for who?

He comes for the believers only. But the second coming of Christ it's going to affect all men. The rapture takes place before the day of wrath, and the second coming of Christ will come after the day of wrath or concluding the day of wrath. There's no reference to Satan in the rapture but we see in the second coming of Christ that Satan is bound. We see in the rapture that Christ comes for His own.

We see in the second coming of Christ, Christ returns with His own. We see in the rapture that Christ comes in the air, comes in the clouds. But what about the second coming? Where does He come then? He comes to the earth.

In the rapture, Christ cleans His bride. But in the second coming, He comes with His bride. And the rapture on His own seeing. But in the second coming, every eye shall see Him. The Bible says, every eye shall see Him, every knee will bow.

That's the second coming. And we can see it in the, when the rapture takes place, The rapture is done, tribulation starts. But when Christ comes back, He begins His millennial kingdom. We know when He comes, He reigns on earth in peace for a thousand years. That's just some of the differences.

That's not all. But That gives you a general idea. When the Lord comes back in the air, gather his own. When the Lord comes back in the air, comes to the earth, he comes with his own. I think that's one of the main things that's what stands out to me the most.

He come gets us, we go with him, and when he comes back, we come with him. Now our text, 1 Thessalonians chapter 4. To give a little bit of background here as Paul is writing to the church here at Thessalonica, we have to see what's going on. Why on Paul are you writing this? Why are you writing this?

Well, if we back up to verse 11, we can see that Paul is teaching there that we should live a life where we're busy doing God's work. Lead a quiet life. Mind our own business. Work with our own hands. I think we can see that in verse 11, verse 12.

We can see there that we should live a life that is ample to others. So what had happened here at the church there at Thessalonica, the people had began to, they knew about Christ was going to come back. So they just kind of was going to sit back. And they weren't going to do anything. They were just going to sit back and wait, and the Lord come back and get us.

So all we got to do is just sit around and wait. They believed that. They believed that. But you know, If you go back into Jeremiah, I think it's chapter 31, when God's people, Israel, they were in captivity to Babylonians. They had this same kind of, well, we're in captivity.

We don't have to do anything. We're just going to wait until the Lord sets us free. Takes us back home. Well, that was kind of the same mentality this church here had at Festival of Nica. But we see there in Jeremiah, God spoke through Jeremiah, and he told the people to get up and get busy and study the Word, that one day he would come back and he would set them free.

Little bit of resemblance there. We today in the church age, we are reading and looking for and hoping for that day that he does come back to get his people, that He does come and take us home to be with Him. But we also see that the Bible teaches that we have responsibilities. We have work to be doing. His work.

His work. So there, verse 13, they knew about him coming. And if they knew that if he come back, that they would be with him. But they had a big concern. He said, Paul told them, he said, but I would not have you to be ignorant, uninformed, brethren concerning them which are asleep, that you saw or not, even as others which have no hope.

You know, we think about Christian that die. You know, we think about the ones that have died. Those that have died, those that are dead, we call dead. But the Bible teaches something a little bit different. The Bible says they are asleep.

As Paul said here, I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep. Don't sorrow about them, Don't worry about it. See, they didn't know what was going to happen to the ones that had died and going on. They didn't know what was going to happen when Christ came back. Would they just go to be with Christ and their loved ones that had died before?

Would they be left behind? That was a concern for them. They didn't have God's written word as we have it. They didn't understand it. So, Paul's telling them, listen, I want you to understand.

Quit worrying about the dead in Christ. God's got a plan for them. He's got a plan for them. So again, we think about this. We need to think about it as sleep.

Those that have died in Christ, they are asleep. They are waiting for Christ to come back. So sleep was just a common way to express death in the ancient world. Even Christians, they began to call their burial place cemetery. And that's, cemetery means sleeping place.

That's what it was. That's what Paul, listen brothers and sisters, your loved ones that have gone on before you, Paul was telling them that and I tell you that today, that those of you here, those of you that have lost loved ones that have died in Christ, They're just asleep. They're just asleep. One day, Christ is going to wake them up. He's going to wake them up.

You know. And He tells them, there, you know, we have hope. He told them, they're not to sorrow even as others which have no hope. Well, what does it mean by those that don't have hope? Those that have died without knowing Christ, there is no hope for them.

Their destiny has been sealed. They don't have a chance to do something now. Once you have died, it's all over. It's up for the judgment. It's all over.

But we can see that we have a hope. As verse 14 says, for if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with Him. You know, we have more than just a, call it a wishful hope. We have more than that. Of wishful hope of our resurrection.

Because in the resurrection of Jesus we have an amazing example of a resurrection. And then we have a promise of our own. We're going to live because Jesus lived. And the union that we have with Him is stronger than death. Death cannot separate us.

Death cannot separate us. So this is why we as Christian people, those that believe in Jesus Christ, this is why we do not sorrow as those who have no hope. And that's why we have more than just a wishful hope. I hope so. It's not a hope so.

It's a promise from God. And I challenge anyone anywhere to show me one promise in God's word that they say God has not fulfilled. Now there's some prophecy that yet has not been fulfilled. But show me a promise. Didn't God say He would take care of us?

Has He not? Has He not said that He would meet all our needs? He has. He has. We should be so thankful.

See, We have to believe that Jesus died and rose again. We have to believe that. We have to believe that. And then we see in verse 15, it says, For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord. Paul is stressing here and very emphatic that this is not his word.

This is authority of the Lord. Where did Paul get his teaching from? Well, if you studied after Paul met with Jesus on the Damascus road, He was blinded. A few days later, eyes were opened back up. Then we're going to see where Paul was carried away.

He spent time with Jesus. Jesus taught Paul. And probably this is where he revealed this missionary. I don't know, but he taught him according to what the Bible teaches. But this is not just Paul's word.

This is a word that's coming from the Lord. And he says, for this we say unto you, by the word of the Lord. This word came from Jesus. It didn't originate with Paul. And Paul warned the Thessalonians to know that Those who are asleep, and that being the Christians who have died before Jesus' return, they will by no means be at a disadvantage to those that are alive.

Those who are asleep will share in the glory of the coming of the Lord. No wonder the Bible says it's a blessed hope. When I think about just in my immediate family, My mom, my daddy, my oldest brother, they've gone on. You see, I have hope. Amen.

One day. One day. One day. And so do you. All of us have lost loved ones.

But one day, we get to see them again. Then in verse 16, we see there that, for the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God and the dead in Christ arise first." So when Jesus comes to rapture His people, He's going to come personally. Think about that. We have a personal relationship with Jesus. We do.

Is He going to come back for us personally? He's not just going to sin. He didn't have to come. He could have stayed right there at the right hand of the Father. He could have just spoken the word.

He didn't have to come. But Paul says, and the Bible says, He will come personally. The Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout. Think about the word shout. Think about it as being a command.

We think about the voice of the Archangel. The only name that's given to any Archangel in the Bible is Michael. And we talk about the trumpet of God, and I've talked with so many pastors and heard so many preachers, they just get so confused on the trumpet of God. Is this the last trumpet sound? This, this, this, and go on for ages and ages.

Well, that's one thing I'm not confused on. With the trumpet of God, we can see here that believers are gathered together when they hear the trumpet. Now, trumpets were used in the Old Testament to assemble God's people and they were certain sounds the trumpet made and people knew what these sounds were. And in that certain sound God's people would assemble themselves together. We have scripture.

Bible teaches that. As I read over in 1 Corinthians, verse 52, the trumpet sound there, and it kind of seems clear to me it's connected with this trumpet sound here. But then what happened? Verse 17 then says, then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air and so shall we be, so shall we ever be with the Lord. What does this mean?

What does this mean? Well, the verb that's translated there, caught up, means to seize or snatch away. And This passage is the basis for the New Testament doctrine of the rapture. The kitchen of well believers to be with Jesus. We get our word rapture from the Greek word rapturus.

This is the first thing you say to so many people. Well the word rapture is not in the Bible. Okay? Show me where the word Trinity is in the Bible. See?

People's always got something to say. God's made a promise. Paul was explaining that promise to these people here at the church of Thessalonica. He said, listen, And I can understand. You know, if we didn't have any knowledge of what we had been taught, if we didn't have God's Word to go to, God's Word to study, would we not be in the dark on a lot of things.

That's what they were at home. And they was concerned. They had love for their brothers and sisters that had gone on. They didn't understand. Just didn't understand.

But here, the greatest apostle, the one who wrote so many books with the New Testament, he said, listen, folks, listen, brothers and sisters, Don't be ignorant concerning this. You know, God's got a plan. And His plan is that one day in His time, and at any time, it could be in the twinkling of an eye, that He's going to come back for his people. He's gonna come personally. He's gonna come in the cloud.

You're gonna hear a voice. You're gonna hear a shout. You're gonna hear a trumpet blow. But don't worry. Those of your loved ones that's gone on before you, he's going to bring them forth first.

He's going to bring them forth first. And then He's also going to gather you. And over in 1 Corinthians it's changed how our bodies have to, this mortality has to put on immortality. You know, we know that flesh and blood cannot get down and go into heaven. So we get new bodies.

He brings them forth from the grave. Boy, that's amazing thought isn't it? Come forth from the grave. Been dead thousands of years. I think about Jesus when Latter-day died and they thought he'd come too late.

He drove around a little bit just to prove something to them, maybe. But just a little bit and He speaks and Lazarus comes out of the grave with his grave clothes on. Just speaks. Well, that's pretty good. But now, Jesus, you are up there in the clouds, and the trumpet sounds, And these dead come out of the grave.

They've been there a thousand years. They come out. They get a new body. The ladders didn't get a new body then. The ladders will have a new body one day.

They didn't get one then. That's our Lord. That's the power of God. You say, well, this is just hard to understand. Some people say that.

Creation is hard to understand for a lot of people. When you tell them God just spoke, and here it is. You tell them that God has always been, always will be. Well, Where did God come from? He didn't come from nowhere.

He's always been. Don't make something hard out of something simple. Believe what the Bible says. So nowhere in this passage does Paul tell the people not to grieve. When someone dies that we love, it brings sorrow to our heart.

Brings sorrow to us. We gonna miss them. We loved them. I believe the Bible said Jesus wept too. So we can grieve and we can miss them.

That's okay. But don't, that's for ourselves. But if a person dies in Christ, listen, when they're gone, Breath leaves that body You know where they at? They're right there Right there with Jesus Right there just that quick I Think about the story rich man of Lazarus and hell was the rich man lifted up his eyes, then what about Lazarus? The Bible said that the angel carried him to the bosom of the Father.

So When this breath leaves this body, is God going to let an angel take our spirit and be with him? He did Lazarus. He does Lazarus. But then one thing, a couple more things. So we look back at verse 17 says, then with which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.

And so shall we ever be with the Lord. If we could just wrap our minds around that folks, this is a short short pilgrimage that we have here on this earth and we are just pilgrims passing through. But yet we put so much into this world. So much. Jesus said, let's not lay up our treasures here on earth.

Lay up our treasures in heaven. We should have more thoughts about going to be with him than anything else. I'll say this is just a short time that God gives us. But then this verse says that we meet the Lord in the air and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Is there end to ever?

No. There's no end to ever. And then in verse 18, Wherefore, comfort one another with his word. And those of you who probably didn't say, take comfort. Amen.

Amen, he didn't. He didn't say, take comfort. See, this is where we miss out. We miss out so much. But we're to give comfort.

How can we give comfort? If this don't bring comfort to the hearts of every saved person of the Lord Jesus Christ and brother, I might as well hang it up. I don't know what to preach. I don't know what to teach. If going to be with the Lord forever don't bring comfort to our hearts, what can?

What can? So many times we go to church, and I'm not talking about preachers doing what God's called them to do, because God called preachers, That's what he's going to do. But so many times we get there in church and we hear about this, this, this, and this, and this, and we're never comforted. Say, well, you just said not to take comfort but to give comfort. I like to hear once in a while about the blessings of God.

I like to hear once in a while about why God has got prepared for His people. And I think most of us would. That statement there can only make sense if the catch and the way of the previous verses actually delivers Christians from impending danger. We're not going through the Trimbleation. We're not.

I could show you several verses. I'll read one right there close to you. There in the fifth chapter, verse 9, it says, For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but detains salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ. He's not appointed us. We can go over to Revelation.

God's going to spare us from that. He's going to spare His people from that. Give comfort, let people know. We have trials and temptations in this world, yes we do. We promise that.

We should grow from that, we should learn from that. But do we? I have three more verses I want to share with you and we'll wrap this up. You can turn with me to John 14, verses 1-3, or you can just listen. Jesus here, in this chapter, He foretells His coming for His own.

Chapter 14, verse 1 says, Let not your heart be troubled. Okay, who is Jesus speaking to? Well, you say, well, He's speaking to His disciples. Who were the first members of His church? So he's speaking to the church.

Speaking to the church. Let your heart not be troubled. You believe in God, believe also in me. Listen folks, I'm going to probably say something here that you might not have heard before. Prove me wrong.

I challenge you. I ain't proved myself wrong yet, so you know, I challenge somebody to prove me wrong. I've been wrong before. But Jesus said in my Father's house, what does He say? He says, there are many mansions.

Well, that mansion is His dwelling places. He says, in my Father's house are many mansions. If it were not so, I would have told you. Wow. That right there is what most people hear.

Listen to Him. That won't challenge you. In my Father's house were many mansions, many dwelling places. If it wasn't, I wouldn't have told you there was, Jesus is saying. But listen, listen to what he said then.

He says, I go, he says here already, He says, in my father's house are many dwelling places. And then he says, I'll go to prepare a place for you. Who's he talking to? He's talking to his church. So is, I asked the question, is that dwelling places that's already prepared, because he said in his father's house there were many mansions.

So it sounds like they're already there, okay? But then he tells his church, I'm going to prepare a place for you he says I go to prepare a place for you so they could be a big discussion I could spend a lot of time right here. I could talk about the bride of Christ right on. And I believe that's exactly what he's talking about. I believe Jesus told his disciples there, The first church, I'm going to prepare a place for you.

And where I go, what else did he say? He's verse three, and I go and prepare a place for you. I will come again. He says, and if I go, when we know he went, He says, I will come again and receive you unto myself that where I am, there you may be also. I believe with all my heart that Christ is gone.

He is preparing that place for us as he said he was going to prepare a place I believe with all my heart when he gets this that place prepared whatever it's gonna be it's just gonna be like no other place you can talk about the streets of gold and all the other things that would describe heaven you can talk about all that won't tell you don't mean nothing to me what means something to me folks is this that my Lord and Savior that can wonder God sent to die to pay the price for my sin, He tells me in His word that I am going to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again that where I am, there you may be also. I believe with all my heart that's his church his bride well we know all people it's gonna be in heaven it's not gonna be in the bride of Christ okay so Jesus is it prove me wrong but I'll until I am I'm gonna go to my death believing with all my heart that Jesus is preparing a place for me and then one day I'm going to go to that place He's prepared and I'm going to always be with him.

If you can't comfort one another with words like this, what are we doing brother? What are we doing with God's Word if we can't give comfort to God's people? Yeah, we need to know all the doctrines we do. We need to know about the commands these give us. We need to know how to live our lives.

We need to know how to conduct business in the church. We need to know how church grows. We know the mission that he gave to his church. We know that and he gave it to his church too, by the way. He didn't give it to the world, he gave it to the church.

And I'll tell y'all, and I've said this before and I'll say it again and I'll close in just a minute, but it's something you need to think about. Brother Green and I talked about it briefly before, but not exactly like this, but we didn't mention the church. But when he gave that commission to the church, he gave it to his church. Not something that was going to be started later on down the road like Most of Christianity and the majority of Christianity believe, they do not believe that Jesus started church during His earthly ministry. They don't believe the church came along to the day of Pentecost.

Well it was empowered on the day of Pentecost. Christ sent His Holy Spirit to dwell in the hearts. But listen, and I'm going to warn you, some of these great preachers that we're listening to are so-called great preachers and they can preach the Word. Believe me, they can preach it a lot better than I can preach it. They know it a lot better than I know it.

But some of the things that they don't know, I know. Okay? We have to draw the line somewhere. But as I've said before, and I'll keep saying this, God gave His commission to the church. Now, these reformers that I'm talking about, most of them, and there can be other churches included in that.

When they talk about the commission, the commission, that God's commissioned us as is, He didn't give it to them. He gave it to the church. They don't even want to be called a Baptist non-denominational here go non-denominational well I'm proud to be a Baptist I believe Jesus Christ was a Baptist and I believe that they walked down through the years they've been a group of people that's always taught the same truth that the disciples, the apostles taught, that Jesus taught. There's always been. If Jesus told a lie, and he's not a liar, that's one thing God can't do.

He can't lie. He promised that he would always be with his church throughout the ages to the end of time he would always be with his church has always been here no matter what these 15th and 16th century formers come along saying it's always been here and if I want the church started for day of Pentecost then they don't have no commission we don't have no commission Because he just gave it to those disciples. Those disciples were dead and gone. If he didn't give it to the church, we don't have one. But he gave it to the church.

Amen. Let us pray that God will give us what it takes to contend for the faith that was once delivered to the saints. So we're not doing that folks. Churches are not doing that anymore. If it feels good, do it.

Preach Christian liberty to them and let them go out and do what they want to. Let them come to church half naked and not say nothing about it. Give them the right to do anything they want to do. Throw away the commands of the Bible. Well this wasn't in the Bible one time, let's just throw it away.

We don't need it no more. If it was imported, then talk more than one time. Hogwash. God don't have to say something one time to me. I might have to say something several times, but God don't have to say it one time.

When God says it, that's law. That's His Word. And we're not under the law, folks. I'm not saying that we are. We're under grace.

But nowhere, as Jesus said, I didn't come to destroy the law but to fulfill it. We're still to keep the commandments of these words no matter what, to do the best that we can and we all make mistakes, we all slip and fall. But to get up every day and repeat the same mistakes, I need to examine yourself, people that does that. I thank you for your time, I thank you for your attention, I Thank you for the opportunity to let me come and share God's Word with you. I pray God's blessing upon this church, upon each one of you.

For those that were mentioned on your prayer list, they'll be in my prayers. I can't call them by name, but I don't have to. God knows who they are. He knows what their need is. And the prayer of a righteous man obeys the most.
